Hart
"Hart" is the last name of my grandmother's father's mother. I've posted a picture of a basic biography from a document my grandmother gave me.
Nov. 8 week
Hey fellow bloggers!
I spoke with my grandmother yesterday, and she told me that she found a picture of her grandparents on her father's side with the last name "Hart." I'm going to try and pick it up sometime this week to show everyone. When I spoke to her she started talking more about her biological father, which she never had a relationship. Her father(last name "Bruce"), gave my grandmother and two of her siblings up for adoption when his wife(my grandmother's mom) passed away-my grandmother was only two. She was adopted by her aunt(her biological mother's sister) and Uncle. Her other two siblings were also given to relatives of her mother. My grandmother doesn't like to mention her biological dad, because of his abandoning the three out of four kids he had with his wife. He kept his oldest son, most likely because he was old enough to help him out with things. It's interesting and sad to hear personal memories like the one pertaining to her dad, because my grandmother has always been a trooper when it came down to fending for her children, and she's always been adamant your children come first, so I know it hits a sore spot when her father is mentioned. She was raised by a banker(uncle) and school teacher aunt(who she knows as mother), so she never went a day without dinner on the table, but I think she always wonders what would've happened if her mother didn't die.

Update!
Hey bloggers!
I was googling this past weekend, and I found some information on my grandmother's side of the family-There's a website! All I had to do was google Poole, Kentucky(You don't even need the comma, LOL) and the website had a gob of information on how the city was started(by my so many removed grandparents). My grandmother hopes to go visit relatives in the near future, so I might visit too, the only problem with that is this project would be over by then, WAH! Some people like Trent(cough, cough) have all the luck! -_-
Here's a link to my KIN'S website!

wikipedia sandbox article
I'm doing a project over genealogy. I chose to follow my ancestry through my grandmother on my mother's side. So far, I have found sites like findagrave.com and ellis island as good places to start finding information. The findagrave was not so successful as of now because I cannot seem to find a grave of a family member that has been documented on the website. Ellis Island was a useful website when searching my father's side of the family because my last name "Hezlep" is not as common as my grandmother's maiden name. It has been difficult to find useful websites that don't cost money to find information on family backgrounds-if any bloggers know of some useful websites that will help me find more information on ancestry, please post a comment. Recently I found a website about my grandmother's side of the family, her family had started the city of Poole, Kentucky. If you did a search on google for the city of Poole, one would find how the city started and who started it-John and Jane Poole. John and Jane Poole are my distant grandparents, which is interesting to know that there is a website for people to learn about the small city of Poole, Kentucky. The website shows pictures of how the town looks now, and what it looked like in the past. My grandmother grew up in this city, and with social media, my grandmother can now access her hometown through the internet. As of now, I've done a video interview of my grandmother about her ancestry and what she knows about it, I've posted images of relatives and pictures of documents where people can access information on the Poole background. Currently, I am trying to find information about the Bruce ancestry-so far I know that our genealogy can be traced back to King Bruce of Scotland. I got an image of the Bruce coat of arms, and will be posting it on my blog.

Ellis Island
I searched "Hezlep" on the Ellis Island website, and it came back with only TWO records of a Hezlep-most likely I'm related to one or both of them-don't you think? At the bottom of the blog is the URL for the two names listed as Hezlep. I recommend registering with the site, because you can check out the original records that the person you are searching for wrote on-it's pretty interesting. Registration is free, as long as you get the basic registration!

Question 5
Social Media is changing by digital advancement. More and more people are getting involved, and newer Second Life applications are being refined every day. Mobile media will soon be advanced, and bringing class with “you” is something I can see happening in the future. The communication model is different than communicating with someone face-to-face because one loses some of the senses. By communicating online you lose smell, so human interaction is becoming minimal. By reading a message being communicated to you through a Web 2.0 application, you lose dialect and tone. Tone is very important to communication, if you lose the tone, you lose half the message-especially since the creation of sarcasm. Hearing that message and reading the message are two very different things, and distortion in messages when sent through the computer can convey meanings a person might not have wanted to convey. On the other hand, Social Media is a great tool for advertising and marketing, especially in today’s world. It’s free, which is HUGE! People can market a business so much easily! If you think back to before technology, business owners had to go by “word-of-mouth” marketing. Social media has torn down geographical barriers because now people can access a business or service immediately halfway around the world. Thursday’s anxiety came from not knowing what to expect from the source. I feel Social Media is a great tool, but the messages being delivered felt distorted because of how I perceived the tone. I felt if I messed up accidently there would be no way of getting a question answered in the amount of time allotted-not knowing the tone of the senders message was intense.
Question 4
Virtual Class
If this were an online class, I would have expected something like these test taking processes, because I would know that I would always need online access to a computer. Traditional classes feel more “hands-on” because the instructor is right in front and telling you what to do; but because this is a social media class, it feels like students get a better “hands-on” type of learning experience because it’s about social media, and the advantages of social interaction through online outlets. As digital technology advances, the barrier between “classroom” teachings and “online” teachings will have softened and eventually disappear-I feel Second life is a step toward that goal, by creating students’ virtual self and interacting in the “virtual” classroom students can become more involved because it’s not just Web 2.0. I feel you can only get so much out of blogging, because in today’s society it’s all about being involved and Second life makes a person get involved.
The basics I learned about Second Life
I have started Second Life. My name in Second Life is Haylee Zeminoba, and I got started on Monday. Since I am familiar with games like Second Life, it wasn’t too difficult to get started. There is always some trouble with getting to know how Second Life uses certain applications, for instance, designing my avatar was frustrating at first because I couldn’t figure out which applications were for hair color. Once I watched some of a tutorial, I figured out how to pick out certain characteristics for my avatar. Overall I am still working on designing my Avatar, because I’m picky and want her to look good, but now that I know how to get her how I want it shouldn’t be long till I’m interacting with my social media peers. I know how to use shortcuts to change the appearance of my avatar whenever I want, so if I get bored with her look during the game, I can easily change her appearance.
Educational Second Life
Second Life is a great tool for education. Instead of just using Web 2.0 applications, students can be immersed in a virtual world, which would overall enhance the educational experience. Professors could teach more classes bases only on Second life because it goes a step beyond a syllabus accessed online. Professors can interact with students on a more “virtual” friendly basis. Scheduling times to meet with a professor virtually because the Professor it out-of-town would be a great tool for a number of students to get the answers to their questions quicker than just using e-mail. In 10 years, yes, most college education could be done in virtual worlds like Second Life-but classes with labs for science or radio/television would probably need students to be in front of an instructor and the school’s tools for better learning. Good things about the idea is that it breaks the geographical barrier of learning in the classroom-anyone can attend. A bad thing about the idea is that it could ruin the college atmosphere.
Question 3
Dr. DeMars was at a conference somewhere in the United States. Dr. DeMars could be spying on us through a painting in the library. He could have had a face transplant to look like Dr. Dempsey; therefore he has been on campus the entire time. Today, he could be in a tree with free wifi and itablet, making sure we do everything correctly. Technical needs Dr. DeMars has is a computer connected to the Internet, and some sort of keyboard It doesn’t matter where Dr. DeMars was as long as he had access to a computer with Internet. Technical needs I had were a working computer, keyboard and Internet. Digital media technology of today allows students to obtain immediate access to a question of an exam, as if the professor were actually present in a classroom. Thursday’s portion of the exam was as much like a “real” exam without the presence of an instructor “in front of students.” Students had to write an essay, similar to “regular” exam processes, but different because instructions were based online instead of on a paper in front of the student. It could have been a more non-traditional test by using Second Life. Second life would have been a fun learning environment to be quizzed over topics in class-by participating, the professor could give a grade from students’ range in answers. Another way of being “non-traditional” would have us post pictures of our work stations in the library so the professor could have a way to view our testing environment.

Hey guys!
As you all know, at least my blog readers should know that I'm related to some Poole's from Kentucky. My grandmother's mom's maiden name is Poole, hence the city Poole, Kentucky. Distant relatives of mine(pictures of the original settlers of Poole were posted, it's the first black and white picture entry in my blog), started the city. My grandmother's cousin published a book about the start of Poole and the heritage. Above you should see a picture of the book.

Mid Term Blog 2
Second Life can effectively be used in social media simply by relevance. Second Life goes beyond comments and posts because it creates a virtual reality. One can immerse themselves more easily then non-second life communications. By creating an avatar, one creates their virtual self, and one can interact more by the ability to make your avatar show a virtual "facial" expression. Not only that, but one can make your avatar even hug another avatar. Instead of going "page to page," you can simply walk(virtually) to the next room to talk to a person. Second Life not only breaks the distance barrier, but the simple letter or post barrier. One has a better idea of what the person is talking about because you can give the avatar simple expressions to make during a conversation. Social web mentions the marketing strategies of social media, and that before it was created a business could either "buy expensive advertising or beg the mainstream media to tell their story for them." Not only is it a "free" marketing tool, but it's a way to meet people without leaving your home. Business people can create their avatar and have meetings with other people from around the world, without ever leaving their seat. Businesses can actually save money by using social media because they wouldn't have to pay their employees to fly halfway around the world for a meeting. The article mentions the "journalist relations" being "focused on traditional media," which means jobs are evolving because of social media. Public relations are changing or have already changed because of the social media revolution, with the new "PR 2.0," which is very similar to the Web 2.0. It's all about interaction through social networks, and because of social media, it's making it possible for people to interact online through a more "real" type of outlet, like Second Life.
Mid Term Blog 1
The readings entitled "Effective Internet Presence" and the businesses discussed in class Tuesday correlate, because it has to deal with how relevant one is in social media. The article mentions that some businesses try to find information on future employees or current ones. That's why it's important to be aware of how present you are online-meaning, don't have any "digital dirt" pop up if an employer googles your name. The article mentions "pesonal branding," and that has a lot to do with businesses discussed Tuesday. One of the businesses mentioned was Ralph Lauren-it's a brand. Ralph Lauren is a great example of an effective online presense or social media presense because it allows users to easily access information in a matter of "clicks." They have a Youtube, Facebook and Twitter account that will either gain a following or repell a following. The point is, is that they are marketing themselves through the Internet, and the article discusses the idea that people are marketing themselves through the Internet, just like a business. One's work habits, interests and hobbys can all be accessed by users and allows the opportunity to gain a following, or in Facebook terms, gain a "friend." It's ones "personal brand" that categorizes a person in specific groups online. The example of Ralph Lauren in class and its business online is vital to its survival for todays generation. It's a social media revolution, which can be positive, but negative too. The article mentions the Internet being a public place, so Ralph Lauren posting things about political or religous preferences is probably not such a great idea because it's a business that serves all backgrounds and not just a specific one-so posting something biased could result in losing consumers. I have already branded myself with my project because of things I have posted. My topic is genealogy, so that categorizes me with family and ancestry in the search engine. Luckily, I have an uncommon name because if I ever started my own business, I could market my products under my name, instead of having to create a whole new one. I say "luckily" but that also makes me an easier target for potential employers to google me and find the right Internet page. Today, it's all about instant feedback and having a presense online, whether it's for a business or finding old friends. Eventually it wont be an option to not be immersed in Internet interaction.

Pictures of my grandparents!
Hey 453 peers and guests!
I wanted to give everyone some pictures of my grandparents! My grandpa's name is William Edward Johnson Jr., and my grandma's maiden name is Margaret Ann Bruce. They were married for fifty-something years! I'm following my family ancestry through my grandma's side because my grandpa's last name is not the best name for finding accurate information. My grandpa looks a bit like Elvis Presley, and apparently we're distantly related to some Presley's but on my grandmothers side. I wouldn't be too upset if I found out my grandpa was Elvis's brother, and if we inherited some of his money!

Got Pics?
I went to my Nanny's today and got a couple pictures to show the world! There's so much information about my family through just her side-I don't think I'll have a problem keeping this genealogy project going! *fingers crossed* I'll make this entry short and sweet, so everyone can ogle my pictures! =P

First entry!
The first step in researching my family history involved a phone call to my grandmother on my mother's side. Some of the names in my family consist of Johnson, Bruce, Poole, Hart and Presley. I've gotten names that go as far back as my great-great-great grandparents. In the coming months I plan on posting pictures and videos of family members and using social media to put my information "out there" which could allow me to get in contact with distant relatives.
